It's A Boy or a Girl! Either Way it's an
Orange County Best Catering Day
Whatever the sex of the baby, this is another simple and easy catering job if done correctly. This should be a seamless and memorable event. In order for that to happen, we need to make sure we are up-to-date in a few areas. First, like bridal showers--this may be a unisex affair. There may be husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend or same sex partners etc. So, we need to know what dynamic we're dealing with here. There are also normally children of the guests attending as well. So, let’s start with the basics.
The Guests and Couple
Who are they and what are their favorites? Get down to the same rule of thumb for baby showers and such. What do they like and set that aside in the budget first. Then, move onto the guest dynamic. Will there be both men and women? Will there be alcohol? Will there be children. Now, we figure out what the space will be and this is normally in a house or possibly a small church or hall of some kind but a home is normally the status quo.
Let's approach this as if we have the breakdown of all three dynamics. This will tell you what to tell us. We have the couple together and the guests of both sexes and the children of the guests or even the couple present. OK, the best way to break down the number for us is just in that order. Couple or single--in this case couple. Their faves may be separate so that's why we don't just count them in the same group as the adults. Then the adult guests and children. The next thing to know--especially for the kids is food allergy and sensitivities to cater to and believe us, we will. Now we can work on the menu. We obviously need at least two to three menu choices for the kids depending on age. This is for five to ten children--there probably won’t be more than that. The adults can either do with sandwich and fruit platters or a cold cut buffet. There are so many choices to compliment that including wine and cheese and fruit and veggie platters.
What is your time of day? Set the right expectation.
Now, in the last section we were touting cold sandwich choices and fruit platters. However; this is because most baby showers are not done late at night when dinner can be expected. But if you're hitting the evening mark from 4 pm onward you're teetering on the brink of dinner time. So, here is a tip. Most showers can be done easily and on a budget any time before 3pm in fact 3 pm is the latest to even try. This is because the breakfast, lunch or brunch menus we can provide are spectacular, inexpensive and beautifully presented. How about an artfully carved melon?
Or melon balls and half-moons with prosciutto ham wrapped around that succulent sweet cantaloupe. Maybe a mixed fruit salad and seasonal greens and an Italian cold cut platter to compliment? Yeah, we thought so...so you see there is a lot to be said for keeping it simple, flavorful and classy and your guests will think you spent a mint! We know better. That's the earmark of a truly great catering company. We know the people we cater to and we know how to make it work and execute it with style for anyone.
Baby showers may include a theme. This is a good way to really target the food you will serve and decorations as well as planned games and events during the shower that normally occur. You may not of thought of the food being themed but just remember our rule of thumb about food and theme clashes. Our example always is that you wouldn't serve a foot long submarine sandwich to a masquerade ball right? Use your instinct for what fits. You wouldn't have a beer keg at a baby shower etc.. maybe finger appetizers shaped like baby rattles etc, get it?
